Solano is the eastern most county of the North Bay area. It’s tiny, only 906 square miles, but a growing mix of rural and suburban centers. Midway between Sacramento and San Francisco, the county has easy access to some of the best amenities in California. The largest city is Vallejo; others include Fairfield, Vacaville, Benicia and Suisun City. Regional government limits residential and commercial development outside of cities, preserving about 80% of the land for open space or agricultural uses.

Despite a high cost of living, real estate is hot in Solano County with high demand and low inventory, and has been for several seasons. Vallejo especially is one of the most coveted areas in the entire US. The median home cost in the county is $358,400.

Solano County has seven public school districts that manage 114 schools. Student test scores have steadily risen over the past seven years. Beyond high school, Solano County is served by the Solano Community College, a University of California campus with the California Maritime Academy, and extension campuses of several major universities.
